PLANS to remove a village phonebox near Llanbrynmair could mean the safety of walkers and cyclists in the area is compromised, residents have warned.
Llanbrynmair Community Council has been made aware by BT that the phonebox in Pennant is one of 192 which it plans to remove as part of widespread plans to cut the number of phone boxes in Wales by half.
With mobile phone coverage in the village “poor”, and the area a popular destination for walkers, calls have been made to save the phone box for emergency use.
A consultation into the plans ends in December, and villagers in Pennant are set to launch a campaign to save the only one in the village.
Resident Sue Beacher said: “We own a property in Pennant, Llanbrynmair, and the phone box adjacent to our house is included in these proposals.”
Llanbrynmair Community Council has been officially notified of those boxes at risk and need to contribute their response before the end of the consultation period.
“I am worried that the public may not be made aware of this in time."
