On International Women’s Day this year, local women will be reminding people that food banks not only need food, but also essential female hygiene products.

Women from Ardudwy will be at the Co-op store in Barmouth stressing the need for sanitary items.

Women’s rep Kathy Aikman said: “It is shocking that in 2019 women in poverty should have to resort to the kind of sanitary protection our grandmothers had to, washing out old rags, because they cannot afford proper protection. Indeed, it is shocking that food banks should be needed at all, but while they are, please give a thought to women and girls needing help with their monthly hygiene.”

The women will also be giving out hand made cotton shopping bags and encouraging younger women to be sure to register to vote.

Kathy said: “We shall welcome any women who would like to help us.”

On Friday, 8 March, Kathy and her team will be collecting sanitary products at the door of the Barmouth Co-op from 11.15am to 12.30pm and welcome others to join them.
