CARU Port, a community group dedicated to promoting Porthmadog, is finalising details for the Christmas lights switch-on.

On Friday, 23 November, there will be a fancy dress disco at the leisure centre with the two winners of best costume being asked to turn on the Christmas lights next week.

The big switch-on will take place in the park in Porthmadog on Friday, 30 November, with plenty of festive fun to draw people in.

There will be stalls, food vans, games, reindeer, choir singing and other activities.

Caru Port, in conjunction with Hebog Running Club, will be arranging a fun run where participants will be encouraged to catch the Grinch.

Ffestiniog Railway will be assisting Caru Port in manning the stalls - which are old-fashioned fair stalls with traditional games on offer.

A spokesperson for Caru Port said they were grateful for all the support they had received: “We have been supported by many local businesses including a large donation from Huws Grays and others from Ffestiniog Railway, Trail Ffest, Spar and from Helen Pugh, who recently celebrated her 90th birthday.

“A huge star has been purchased for the 30-foot tree in the park as well as two new street lights.

“After the switching on of the lights there will be a Hunt The Christmas Dragon competition where children and their families are encouraged to visit local shops along the high street to find a dragon in a Santa hat. There will be a prize for the winner.”
