A Llanrhystud woman interrupted her wedding preparations to run the London Marathon to raise thousands for charity.

Ffion Lewis is due to wed Arran Higgs later this month, but wedding plans took a back seat on Sunday as she donned her running shoes to complete the Virgin Media London Marathon.

Ffion found out she had won a place in the big race while the pair were preparing for their wedding but said she couldn’t change her mind as she was one of those chosen to raise money for the official charity, The Dementia Revolution - which will divide the money between Alzheimer’s Research and The Alzheimer’s Society.

“I ran it not only to raise money to fight against this horrible disease but for my Mamgu who is living with dementia,” Ffion said.

“Arran and I decided to get married sooner rather than later as we want Mamgu to enjoy our day with us, and be able to create some great memories of the day.

“When the email arrived saying I had a place in my first marathon my mum was worried whether I would recover in time for our wedding this weekend, but I will be there, and on time!”

Ffion finished in a time of six hours and 48 seconds and raised a total of £2,505.
