A FICTIONAL detective will be examining one of Gwynedd’s most gruesome murder cases in a new television show.
On Tuesday 17 May, Y Gwyll (Hinterland) star Mali Harries will investigate the murder of Ffion Wyn Roberts in Porthmadog as part of a S4C series, Y Ditectif.
Mali, who plays DI Mared Rhys in the popular police show, will look at the important role of the detective in solving some of the most notorious crimes in Welsh history and how some of the country’s most dangerous criminals have been caught.
Ffion, a 22-year-old care worker, was murdered in 2010 after a night out in the Dwyfor town.
Her body was found strangled and dumped in a ditch.
Iestyn Davies, a woolpacker from Porthmadog, was subsequently convicted and is currently serving 25 years for her murder.
The new TV show deals with the grim reality of modern day Welsh policing. “Each episode is different and we learn about the ways detectives go about their work,” said Mali.
