Madam,
As a resident of Dolgellau who has pushed a child in a buggy around the town I welcome anything that widens the pavements in the town. However, I am not sure moving the bus stops from the square is the best option for the town.
Are the options suggested available? The obvious one is on the Marian but would Gwynedd give up the parking revenue?
The buses can block traffic on the square but how often is there a car parked in the bus stop when the first bus arrives which means the rest are unable to fit into the stop?
Is the best option for the town for the Marian car park to be free for the first hour? This may mean that local people would go there and park and walk into town rather than drive round the one-way system until one of the spaces on the square is free? Visitors would also be tempted to the town. Maybe parents would drop off/pick up their primary schoolchildren from there to avoid the congestion by the school?
The bus stops on the square could then be enlarged by removing a few parking spaces, with a shorter time limit and more disabled bays in the remaining spaces.
With a wider pavement (with shelters and/or benches for waiting passengers), this would mean the buses are further away from the shop doors.
If a bus interchange was created on the edge of town, how long would it be before you were reporting on damage and anti-social behaviour there?
Yours etc,
Ian M Wright, Meyrick Street, Dolgellau.
