Aberystwyth actor Taron Egerton will play iconic pop star Elton John in a new biopic of his life, Rocketman, due out next year.

Today, fans got the chance to see Taron as the enigmatic and often outrageous Elton when Paramount Pictures released a one-minute teaser trailer for the new movie.

Rocketman has been billed as “based on a true fantasy”, and the trailer shows colourful clips from fantastical scenes with Taron featured in the distinctive stage attire and glasses synonymous with Elton.

The film features a stellar cast, with Game of Thrones and Bodyguard actor Richard Madden starring as Elton’s manager John Reid.

Jamie Bell plays Taupin while Bryce Dallas Howard takes on the role of his mother, Sheila Eileen.

The voiceover on the trailer says: “There are moments in a rock star’s life that define who he is.

“Where there was darkness, there is now you. And it’s going to be a wild ride.”

Rocketman charts the breakthrough years of the performer as he approached stardom.

This latest movie will come hot on the heels of Taron’s other upcoming blockbuster, Robin Hood, which is due for release next month.
