SPORTS clubs in Dwyfor and Meirionnydd have benefitted from a five-figure cash boost.

Gwynedd Community Chest has allocated a total of £11,732 to nine sports clubs in Gwynedd, during a recent meeting.

Gwynedd Community Chest grants provide assistance and support to various clubs and organisations who are involved in sport across the county, such as running clubs, girls football, rugby, gymnastics, badminton and many more.

The allocated Gwynedd Community Chest grant money, together with Gwynedd Council’s healthy communities department aim to promote fitness, sports clubs and organisations in the county, and to provide better sporting opportunities for Gwynedd residents.

Bala in particular prospers, as money has been granted to establish both a women’s rugby team as well as a new badminton club.

Additionally Hebog Runners Club in Porthmadog, which was set up since last year, received cash to help buy new equipment and provide additional training for their coaches.

The South Snowdonia Support Group (Parkinson’s UK) also had money which will go towards establishing a Boccia club, a game with similarities to bowls.

Last but not least, the Cader Idris gymnastics club in Dolgellau have money available to upgrade the level of their coaches to increase the quality and cope with the demand for gymnastics in Meirionnydd.
