Madam,
I do feel that for the good of democracy and openness Liz Saville Roberts, Dwyfor Meirionnydd’s Westminster MP, should answer the questions I list below which are all related to matters that the columns of the paper have concerned themselves with in recent months.
Despite Liz’s willingness occasionally to make points in letters to the Cambrian News, she has not as yet taken the opportunity to lay out her position on the pressing matters the questions address.
1. Why is she opposed to the Welsh Labour government housing developments that Gwynedd Council approves? Special funds have been set aside for Welsh language and culture teaching. Why deprive the poor of homes?
2. Why is Liz not critical of the way, as a whole, Plaid Gwynedd Council is underspending, compared with the funds it has available? The policy supports austerity and deprives the poor of vital services.
3. Does Liz support Michael Gove’s ruling that post-Brexit support for Welsh farmers should only be made if ‘the environmental benefits are clear’, i.e without regard for hill farming families and villages?
4. Why is she not campaigning for Lord Elis-Thomas to resign as our AM? He has effectively disenfranchised all who voted for him by forsaking Plaid. A by-election is needed.
5. Will Liz Saville-Roberts follow O Jean Thomas and call for the Brexit negotiations to be taken over by Emily Thornberry, Barry Gardiner and Keir Starmer, the Labour team, under a Labour government in Westminster?
Liz is after all beginning to catch up with Labour policies like the £10 per hour for the Living Wage and is supporting the Labour women’s organisation WASPI.
Plaid Cymru got a real shock in adjacent Arfon during the 2017 General Election and Labour increased their vote in Dwyfor Meirionydd by substantially more than did Plaid and the Tories. Plaid’s positions seem more confusing than complex. Answering these questions may help to clarify some of them.
Yours etc,
Ian MacIntyre, Shelbourne Court, Barmouth.
