ANGRY residents in the Porthmadog area have slammed a recent drop-in session to discuss flooding issues as a “waste of time”.
The drop-in day, at Glaslyn Leisure Centre, was intended to give local people an opportunity to discuss flood risk matters in and around the town. The aim was to raise awareness of the potential flooding risk for the area in the years to come.
Residents were also encouraged to discuss any concerns they have about flooding with officers from Gwynedd Council, Natural Resources Wakes and officers from Welsh Water.
However, residents say they have received no answers to their questions and have described the drop-in session as ‘pointless’.
Peta Panter, who runs The Union Inn, was forced to close her pub shortly before Christmas for almost three-and-a-half months after it was damaged by flash floods. She claims not enough maintenance is being carried out by Gwynedd Council to help prevent flooding.
She said: “There is no joined-up thinking on what these departments are going to do to help us keep our businesses and homes safe from flooding here in Tremadog.
“I have had a horrendous year after I was flooded, it has been a very stressful time so I was disappointed to attend this recent drop-in session and get no answers.”
