OVER £450 has been donated to thank the people in Porthmadog who helped those who were stranded after the car parking site flooded at Festival No 6.

Hundreds of festival goers were left stranded for up to three days after the Festival No 6 park and ride site, next to Porthmadog Football Club, was flooded after torrential weather at the beginning of September.

A rest centre was set up at the Glaslyn Leisure Centre in Porthmadog by around 30 volunteers from the Red Cross where blankets, hygiene packs and warm drinks were handed to around 160 people who were transported there.

Following the chaotic weekend a Facebook group called ‘Festival No 6 problems’ was set up for festival goers to share their experiences of what happened to them.

Through the social media site a fund-raising page was set up to thank the community of Porthmadog for helping those who were stranded.

Ste Greenall, from Cambridgeshire, who set up the JustGiving page, has now presented a cheque of £475 to the British Red Cross charity shop on the High Street in Porthmadog.

He said: “Without the help of local farmers, the Porthmadog Community Centre and volunteers, including many British Red Cross volunteers, the situation would have been much worse.

“Tough times can bring out the best in people so I would like to pass on my sincere gratitude to everyone who helped during that time. You were the best!”
