PORTHMADOG Football Club’s newly built state-of-the-art skills centre is set to open this month.

The football club, which has been blighted by flooding over the last year, has received funding of over £130,000 and is now looking forward to welcoming local people to the new skills and training centre.

The funding has been provided by the Welsh Government’s Aggregate Levy Fund and the Magnox Socio-economic Fund.

Welsh Government Natural Resources Minister Carl Sargeant announced a funding package of £419,953 for six community projects earlier this year which included Porthmadog Football Club.

Club chairman Phil Jones said that they were very grateful to both organisations for their faith and support.

He said: “The club has been an integral part of the Porthmadog community since 1884 and is owned by its supporters.

“We see the new skills centre as providing local people within a 10 mile radius of the town with an opportunity to develop their skills and enhance their work and career prospects.”

He added: “The centre will include a suite of computers, tables and iPads as well as an office, canteen and kitchen.

“Training providers are well aware that the area is centrally placed between the Llyn Peninsula, Meirionnydd and south Arfon.”

An open day will be held at the skills centre on Thursday, 22 September, between 10am and 7pm to find out more about the courses.
