A FOOTBRIDGE in Aberaeron has been rebuilt after being closed amid safety fears.

Residents and councillors in the town feared the footbridge over the river Aeron linking the footpath near Llyswen would be closed for “months on end” after it was cordoned off as its condition deteriorated in September.

It was rebuilt by council workers in time for Christmas.

Aberaeron councillor Elizabeth Evans said that residents were “really pleased” with the work.

“We were initially concerned that the footbridge would be closed for months on end because it is very well used by many people, but in fairness to the council, they have installed it very quickly,” Cllr Evans told the Cambrian News.

“Everyone is really pleased that the work has been completed with little or no disruption to residents and walkers.”

A Ceredigion County Council spokesperson said the new footbridge would “allow walkers to enjoy the popular local footpath once again”.

“Following the construction of the new footbridge by Ceredigion County Council in December, walkers will now be able to enjoy the footpath again near Llyswen in Aberaeron which leads to the bridge,” the council said.

“It has been closed due to safety reasons since the end of September."
