A former Barmouth mayor will tonight host an online launch of the Welsh translation of his memoirs, touching on his life as an hotelier in the seaside town.
Thanks to support from the Book Council of Wales, ’The Journey is Home’ by John Sam Jones has been translated by Sian Northey, who lives in Penrhyndeudraeth.
Its Welsh title is ’Y Daith ydi Adra’
Speaking ahead of tonight’s event, John said: "The online launch is of the Welsh translation of my memoir. The original in English, ’The Journey is Home’, will be launched at an online event next Tuesday evening.
"The reviews are already coming in and are favourable - it’s been in the shops since 1 May.
"The book isn’t a standard autobiography, but it does touch on an experience of running a hotel in Barmouth."
John, who was once mayor of Barmouth describes the book as “a non-linear collection of stories from my life that follow themes - family, (and family secrets), faith and religion, sexuality, electricity”.
"There’s an entertaining section about running a B&B in Barmouth for almost a decade, and there’s the theme of identity.
"Virtual events are not as exciting to me as being with a group of people in the same room, but with coronavirus still a significant problem for us it’s the best we can hope for."
The online launch begins at 7pm will be in Welsh and is free but you must register to attend. To register, visit www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/y-daith-ydi-adra-gyda-john-sam-jones-tickets-150224879659?fbclid=IwAR1X9cn_iTTjU7DSsaBjF_NjU4YVWkfQjAA3BQBHINbCcZJk2LVA9-YlvmA
