FOUR incidents of violence and aggression against Ceredigion council traffic wardens were recorded last year, figures have revealed.

While the council said that the number of incidents involving members of the public getting aggressive with its civil enforcement officers (CEOs) on the streets of the county were “low”, the authority added the reports were a “concern”.

The figures were revealed in the council’s annual health and safety report which went before Cabinet members last Tuesday.

A report put before Cabinet members said: “Although incidents within the Civil Enforcement Service are low, the reports of violence and aggression to civil enforcement officers remains a concern.”

It said there were four such incidents in the year up to March 2016. Details of the incidents and whether any action was taken against those responsible were not given by the council.

A council spokesperson told the Cambrian News: “The incidents of violence and aggression experienced and reported by civil enforcement officers in Ceredigion is low.

“However, any enforcement role that involves direct interaction with the public poses some risks and, in the case of CEOs, measures are put in place to mitigate these."
