A stone jetty at an Aberystwyth beach has been damaged after a weekend of high winds and swelling tides.

A four-metre-wide hole has been gouged out of the jetty at Tanybwlch beach and Ceredigion County Council said repairs will need to be made.

Earlier this year Ceredigion council began a review of sea defences at the beach, as climate change and sea level rises make the beach less secure.

Tanybwlch, a popular destination for residents and tourists, has seen several incidents where high tides and winds have damaged defences.

The council is carrying out a review of the stability of the shingle ridge and sea defences of the beach, funded by Natural Resources Wales.

A council spokesperson told the Cambrian News: “Ceredigion County Council is aware of damage to the stone jetty and is in the process of appointing a contractor to undertake the necessary repairs.”
