‘Fed-up’ residents have entered their 10th month of waiting to move into housing association properties in Harlech.

The Cambrian News reported last month on the plight of frustrated tenants who had been promised four housing association properties on Nant Road, but had been left in limbo, with one tenant forced to live in a caravan.

According to one, who did not want to be named, people were allocated houses in January and had been due to move in at the end of February, but the properties still haven’t been occupied with Christmas less than two weeks away.

Grwp Cynefin, the housing association behind the properties, told the Cambrian News that the reason the tenants can’t move in is because of a delay regarding “legal and official documentation” and issues concerning planning permission for chimneys and sheds. However, the park authority said planning issues would not have prevented the homes from being occupied or sold.

A spokesperson said: “Once planning permission has been approved by the planning authority, there is no requirement by the National Park Authority to sign off the proposal before they can be occupied or ownership transferred.

“For this reason, the identified non-compliance of the Nant y Mynydd homes in terms of the missing chimneys and the addition of garden sheds would not have prevented, on our part, the homes from being occupied or sold.

“Therefore the delay in allowing residents to move into the new homes had nothing whatsoever to do with the national park authority."

A spokesperson for the housing association said: “Grwp Cynefin is working hard to progress developments at Nant y Mynydd, in order that the houses can be let to the applicants.

“We share the applicants disappointment at the delay and we will update them regarding progress, as soon as practically possible.”
