Progress on the new Dyfi Bridge is being made despite concerns the scheme had stalled, the Welsh Government has confirmed.
Machynlleth councillor Michael Williams had raised concerns about the future of the scheme, saying residents both in the town and the surrounding area had become frustrated by the seeming lack of progress recently.
But the Welsh Government said this week that the delay had been to ensure that consultation discussions had been continuing with “key stakeholders” to address concerns raised as part of the scheme.
Cllr Williams, who has repeatedly said the new bridge is desperately needed for the Dyfi Valley, said he was pleased that there appeared to be some progress being made.
But he added that there had been frustration and concern about the lack of feedback and information about how things were progressing.
He said: “Whilst I recognise the need for full consultation, it does seem to have taken an inordinate amount of time that has seen people from Machynlleth and from further afield, left very frustrated by the lack of progress.
“The sooner the work is completed the better.”
