A FUNDRAISER with a difference will take place in Aberystwyth tomorrow to raise money for mental health charity Mind.

The university’s Nomadic Players Drama and Theatre Society are looking for participants in #AberSnap, which has been designed to be part scavenger hunt, part puzzle and part time trial.

The event will see people given clues to a location or landmark in Aberystwyth which they will then have to get a picture of.

Sophie Osborne, who organised the event with fellow social secretary Amber Cauchi, said they were delighted with the support shown by local businesses toward the fundraiser.

She said: “We’ve been blown away with the support we have received from local businesses and really didn’t expect to have so much interest in the event. It just goes to show how appreciated Mind Aberystwyth is by the local community.”

Prizes include VIP passes for Aberystwyth Royal Pier, tickets to see Ballet Cymru at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, tickets for any Aberystwyth Town FC home game and a red kite feeding experience at Nant yr Arian.

Sophie said the group had wanted to raise money for Mind Aberystwyth because of the important work the charity does.

She said: “We wanted to organise a fundraiser that was a little out of the ordinary - something that could bring the community together and give them something fun to do on a wintery Saturday afternoon.

“From the offset, we knew we would be fundraising in support of Mind Aberystwyth, as the support they offer is really second to none.

“Mental health is something that affects so many of us, both directly and indirectly, and the work that Mind so tirelessly do to raise awareness of this is wonderful.

“For many people, Mind is so much more than a charity - it’s somewhere to turn to when it seems nobody understands, a safe place and a genuine, unassuming support service - one that we desperately want to give back to.”

Anyone who wants to take part in #AberSnap needs to form a team of two and register by the mini golf course on Aberystwyth’s promenade between 12.15 and 12.50 with the event starting at 1pm. Entry costs £3 with all money raised going to Mind Aberystwyth, but there will also be a raffle raising funding for the charity.
