Llyn fishermen are involved in a battle with a holiday home owner they fear is planning to build an extension on land they have used to store their equipment for more than a century.
They claim they have documents dating back to 1903 proving they have rights to use the land at Nefyn beach to keep fishing pots, nets and other gear.
But they fear Robert Blackham is now planning to use the land to extend his neighbouring holiday home after the area was fenced off and their equipment cleared away.
They have won the backing of Liz Saville Roberts MP and Nefyn councillor Gruffydd Williams.
Concerns have also been expressed by Nefyn Town Council and the Llyn Fishermen’s Association about the future of the land, next to Penogfa, Glan y Môr.
The fishermen in Nefyn told the Cambrian News that they sent copies of the documents to the owner of the property in 2017.
They are now campaigning for work on the site to stop and the rights of the fishermen to be respected.
Owi Roberts, chair of the Llyn Fishermen’s Association, said the Nefyn fishing community had the backing of the whole industry.
“The land belongs to Nefyn fisherman, pure and simple,” he said.
“We have the actual letter stating as much. The land in dispute was given to Nefyn fishermen in 1903.”
