On one of the hottest days of the year so far, the Farmers’ Union of Wales set off to tackle 870 miles as a team of staff and members took on the WalkWales Challenge to boost funds for the FUW president’s charity fund.
Every year FUW staff and members join together and organise an event that brings them together and helps raise money for the President’s charity - this year for the Farming Community Network and the Alzheimer’s Society Cymru.
Fifty walkers, with representatives from each of the union’s 11 county branches and Aberystwyth headquarters, set off on the coastal path, taking different routes around Aberystwyth and ending the challenge at the FUW head office at Penrhyncoch for a pig roast on Friday, 21 June.
“I’m so proud of the team for going the extra mile to boost the fund,” said FUW president Glyn Roberts, who also took part in the walk.
“It was a very hot day and they did a fantastic job as always. In our places of work we’ve faced some pretty low-points in the last few years.
“Bovine TB, price volatility and uncertainty about our future post-Brexit, this all puts a strain on our resolve and will have many feeling stressed and under immense pressure which is why we continue to keep the spotlight on mental health and raising money for these great charities,” he added.
