BLOSSOMS Gallery in Aberystwyth has an exciting and varied programme of events, exhibitions and workshops for the spring, starting on Friday, 5 February.
The local community art gallery, starts the season with The Art of Language, an open exhibition inspired by the connections between the visual and literary arts exploring the influence of the spoken, sung and written word on the visual arts.
The popular local group of multi-instrumentalists Three Legg’d Mare/Y Gaseg Deirgoes will bring the exhibition to life with an exciting performance taking audiences across Britain and far beyond, with songs of madness, love, death and adventure on Friday, 5 February.
On Wednesday, 10 February, and Saturday, 20 February, from 2pm to 2.45pm, there will be a special opportunity to hear artist and poet Eileen Harrisson reading her original and thought-provoking poems.
She will also perform a selection of work by other poets in her part-sung, part-spoken way and be signing her books at the end of the event.
The Blossoms team is excited to welcome electro-folk-storytelling trio Harp and a Monkey to perform ‘the extraordinary ordinary: a celebration of everyday life, love and heroes’ on Friday, 19 February, at 8pm.
With a reputation for delivering hugely entertaining live performances, and two critically-acclaimed albums under their belt, this is not a show to miss.
The exhibition events will culminate with Snowdonia Storylines with Eric Maddern, as part of the Stories by Gaslight series.
Throughout February, Blossoms is also celebrating the fascinating ecosystem of woodlands interpreted in textiles, print, painting and sculpture, starting on 6 February in its Eco Gallery.
A varied and inspiring range of workshops will run alongside the exhibition, including a fungi illustration course with Tereska Shepherd on Saturday and Sunday, 6 and 7 February; a linocut printmaking workshop with Ian Phillips on Saturday, 13 February; and the opportunity to create your own unique wooden bird sculpture with Pod Clare on Saturday, 22 February.
Local artist Anne Thomas will be running a Mandala painting workshop, Spirals of Life, on Saturday, 27 February, whilst visiting guest artist and renowned feltmaker Susan Mulcock will be running a workshop entitled Painting with Wool: Interpreting Trees and Woodland on Saturday, 5 March.
Woodland-themed activities will be run by local artists and tutors at the weekly after-school and young artist workshops, starting at Blossoms on Tuesday, 23, and Wednesday, 24 February.
