AS an Aberangell garden gets ready to open to the public this weekend, an appeal has been launched for more people to join an open garden scheme.
The garden at The Old Coach House at Dolcorsllwyn, Aberangell is open this Sunday from 11am-4pm as part of the National Garden Scheme.
Admission costs £4 and money raised on the day will fund charities supported by the National Garden Scheme including Macmillan, Marie Curie, The Queen’s Nursing Institution and Hospice UK.
If you would like to open your garden to the public and raise money for charity, NGS is on the look out for more people to join them.
“We are lucky to have a number of new gardens opening for the National Garden Scheme next year, but we are always on the look out for more,” a scheme spokesperson said.
“Our gardens come in all shapes and sizes. Some open just once, some open a few times, many open on their own, others open with their neighbours. So if you’re passionate about your garden and your friends and family tell you how lovely it is, then it’s very likely other people will want to visit your garden too. By opening your garden, you’re not only giving people a great day out, you’re also raising money to help those in need.”
If you are interested, you could see The Old Coach House at Aberangell this Sunday.
It has evolved over the years and now consists of informal flower beds with gravel and grass paths alongside fruit and vegetables. Plants have been chosen to attract pollinating insects to the garden and, in true cottage garden style, hens and bees share a secluded space with garden sheds, greenhouses and a poly tunnel. There is a small summer house and various seating areas to encourage visitors to linger and enjoy views of the garden and the wonderful Dyfi Valley countryside all around. Home made preserves, Indian street food and local products will be for sale.
You can book in advance or just pay at the gate. Tickets, directions and more information about these and other Welsh gardens can be found on our website ngs.org.uk.
If you would like to open your garden to the public, contact Susan Paynton, north Powys county organiser, on 01686 650531 or at [email protected].
