Part of Porthmadog is currently closed to cars due to a gas leak.

A road in Porthmadog was closed due a gas leak is due to reopen this afternoon.

Workers from Wales & West Utilities have been working on site, on Tremadog Road, in Porthmadog attempting to fix the issue.

They are hopeful that the work, which started today, 19 March, will be completed this afternoon and they will be able to reopen the road.

Mark Morris, Wales & West Utilities Operational Manager for Gwynedd, said: "We are working in the Tremadog Road area of Porthmadog today (19 March) to repair a leak on a gas pipe running beneath the road.

"In agreement with Gwynedd Council and to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe while we work, manned traffic management is in place along Tremadog Road.

“Our engineers worked around the clock and have now repaired the leak. In order to fill in the holes that we have dug and give the new road surface time to set, we will need to keep our traffic management in place until this afternoon (19 March).

“We would like to thank the public for their patience whilst we fixed this leak. We try hard to keep disruption to a minimum. However, it was important that we fix this leak as soon as possible to keep the gas flowing so that people can heat their homes and power their businesses.”
