GENEROUS donations from a Llyn businessman and local regatta committee mean a playgroup in Llanengan can remain open.

Cylch Meithrin Llanengan (Llanengan Playgroup) is struggling to remain open due to lack of funding available but have continuously worked hard to keep the playgroup’s standard high, which has now resulted in a glowing ESTYN report.

However, the playgroup has recently received a financial boost after local councillor and landlord John Brynmor Hughes and Abersoch Regatta committee members made generous donations to help the playgroup remain open.

Cllr Brynmor Hughes, who runs The Sun Inn close by in Llanengan donated £500 and Abersoch Regatta donated £450.

Caryl Williams, the playgroup’s leader said the team were extremely grateful for the donations.

She said: “We really do work tirelessly to fund raise to keep the playgroup open for the kids.

“The grant we get, along with the children’s fees just isn’t enough to cover wages, let alone equipment, so unless we work hard to fund raise the playgroup won’t stay open for very long.

“It’s so hard for playgroups like us out there right now but it’s such a shame to see us struggling as it’s such a brilliant start to children’s educational miles and it would be such a shame if we were to close.

“We’re really lucky to have such good support from the parents, and also people from the local community, who always support the things we do."
