Madam,
At a time when so many Oscars, awards etc, are being given out, as one who works closely with so many others in the voluntary sector, I have observed with much admiration the work of a colleague who gave and continues to give such excellent work as press secretary for the Save Bodlondeb Campaign and now for the North Ceredigion Forum for Elderly Care.
If there was an award for one of the most discussed and accurate writers of letters regularly printed in the Cambrian News, mainly on the subject of care for the elderly, then I would have no hesitation in nominating George Holloway.
George previously worked for Ceredigion County Council Social Services and not only are his letters accurate but they have the foresight to recognise and keep us readers informed about the folly of the present county council administration of not taking into account the future well-being of our elderly and infirm.
Just a handful of Cabinet members are making decisions such as the closure of the much-loved and used Park Avenue Day Centre and recently the closure of Bodlondeb home in Aberystwyth.
George’s latest letter in last week’s Cambrian News on the subjects of the inappropriate proposed site of extra-care housing at Plas Morolwg, Aberystwyth, and his well-deserved satire at the council’s expense on the 12 years of the publicly-funded farce of Cylch Caron and it warranting a film, 'Carry On Cylch Caron’, was pure genius in summing up the present situation and how local residents perceive it.
Like so many other volunteers in our area, George Holloway goes quietly about his work and like all others does deserve local recognition and I as one of so many thank him for his efforts.
Yours etc,
