A MINLLYN mini fanzone was set up last week to watch Wales’ historic semi-final match against Portugal.
Football fanatics Lynne Humphreys-McCrickett and husband John’s home became world famous after they draped their house with a gigantic 30m2 replica Wales shirt.
The 6.5m x 4.5m Welsh shirt (pictured) adorns their home in Minllyn, near Dinas Mawddwy.
The Welsh fans were tired of all the nation’s ‘bigger’ towns and cities getting their own fanzones and celebrations, so decided to do something “a little bit different”.
Lynne said: “It was something we thought we’d do once we qualified, but it never really took shape.
“As soon as we topped the group stages and beat Northern Ireland we knew we’d have to do something.
“The next thing I know we’re getting calls and emails from the United States, Hungary, the Philippines – It’s been manic.”
Astonishingly, the stupendous shirt is not the couple’s first foray into oversized football jerseys.
“In 2003 we did something similar for Glasgow Celtic when they reached the final of the UEFA Cup,” Lynne, originally from Machynlleth, continued. “That shirt even ended up on top of Snowdon.
“Who knows what we’ll do with our Welsh one? I know Sesiwn Fawr and the Mach festival are interested in displaying it.
“Perhaps it’ll go on a tour of north Wales in some of the places that can be forgotten about. “It’s about time the [Football Association of Wales] started recognising fans up here.
“Hopefully you’ll see the shirt out in Russia for the next World Cup though, we can all dare to dream now!”
