A GROUP hoping to buy a pub for community use has not given up hope and has renewed fund-raising efforts despite planning permission being granted to turn it into a dwelling.
The Garndolbenmaen Community Group is still hoping to buy the Cross Foxes, which shut last year, despite an application by its owners to turn the tavern into a dwelling being approved by Gwynedd Council in May.
Plans for the pub, which remains on the market, were twice deferred to give the group enough time to try and buy the pub outright, but the committee was forced to make a decision after the applicants appealed to the Planning Inspectorate, with the bid having been on the table since November 2017.
The group, which has now received clearance for its financial conduct authority number to raise shares and apply for grants, has kicked off a fund-raising drive which will be begin at a Rocio Garn gig on 22 September at the Garndolbenmaen village hall.
“The gig is being organised for this purpose and for raising much needed ready cash so that we can pay for a website, printing costs and large banners that we can put around the surrounding area,” chair Caroll Morris said.
The Garn Rocks concert will be a bilingual night of rock music featuring Y Cyffro and White Ether (Rhys Mwyn’s band).
Doors will open at 6pm.
