PENPARCAU residents living at the top of a steep street are calling for the reintroduction of a bus service which was ended six years ago.
People living in Garth Dinas, a cul-de-sac which snakes up the hillside from Heol Dinas, are feeling isolated and bemoan the expense of not having the option of catching a bus from their street.
The bus service was stopped around six years ago, and residents are calling on the council and Mid Wales Travel bus company to reinstate it.
Lloyd Edwards, who is standing as Liberal Democrat candidate for Penparcau ward in the local elections in May, said: “The bus company was trying to say there wasn’t enough room for the bus to turn around, but you don’t have to have a big bus to go up there.
“The residents are up in arms about it. They just want it back.”
Mr Edwards added: “Elderly residents are particularly affected by it.
“But also young people who haven’t got cars want it back because it is a lot for people to pay for a taxi, which costs about five or six pounds each trip.”
Mr Edwards said he had spoken to Mid Wales Travel about the possibility of reinstating the route, and was told that the council were looking into it as it was up to them.
A Ceredigion council spokesperson said: “The Penparcau bus services are run on a commercial basis and any decision to withdraw these services are made by the bus operator and not Ceredigion council.”
