AN Aberystwyth family is helping to organise a fund-raising golf day to thank the Noah’s Ark Charity for the treatment of two young family members.

Amanda Harry and her brother Peter have teamed up with Borth Golf Club to organise the Tom Parker and Absent Friends Golf Day on Sunday, 9 July after the club said they wanted to help the family’s fund-raising efforts.

Amanda and Peter decided they wanted to raise money for the Noah’s Ark Charity after Amanda’s two children, Charlie and Emilee, both needed life-saving treatment after being born prematurely. Charlie also needed treatment for a tumour that was initially thought to be cancerous, but was thankfully benign.

Charlie spent the first four weeks of his life on the neonatal unit at the University Hospital of Wales after he was born nine weeks prematurely in November 2013.

Shortly before Charlie’s first birthday, an ultrasound found the tumour on his left kidney which was benign, but Amanda said he still requires check-ups.

Emilee was also born prematurely in May 2016 and currently receives care as an outpatient at the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital.

Amanda said: “Having both my babies born early was a frightening experience and finding a potentially cancerous tumour even more so, but it means that we know first-hand how lucky we are in Wales to have a specialist paediatric facility like Noah’s Ark.

“The hospital has provided our family with so much support and saved my son’s life, not once, but twice, so now it’s our turn to give something back.”
