An Aberystwyth man has raised more than £1,000 in memory of his grandfather by completing the gruelling Ironman Wales competition.
Dave Lewis, who is living in Cardiff but due to return to live in Aberystwyth later this year, took on the Ironman course in Tenby last month to raise money for Iori Lewis Memorial Fund which benefits the Royal British Legion.
Mr Lewis, who fought in the Second World War, was a long-time president of the Aberystwyth Royal British Legion branch.
Dave, 36, said: “The fund was set up after he died in order to honour his memory for all the good works he had done during his lifetime.
“Donations from his family, friends and colleagues in his memory were dedicated to be used by the Aberystwyth Royal British Legion for the benefit of older members of the Armed Forces family in the Aberystwyth area.
“To this end, amongst other works, an annual lunch for 30 is held to bring together those who are housebound, old friends to be reunited and to remind these people they are cared about.”
Dave trained for 10 months for the challenge, which comprised a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, followed by a marathon all in one day.
He completed the gruelling challenge in a time of 13 hours and 37 minutes.
