A scheme has been set up to increase the amount of food grown in the Aberystwyth and Dyfi Valley area.

The green project, which has secured funding from the Welsh Government, is looking for a master gardener who can share their growing skills with others.

The project involves a number of local groups such as Aber Food Surplus and ecodyfi.

Over the next two years, it is hoped the master gardener will include sharing skills, knowledge and training around organic growing amongst residents and communities in mid Wales.

Master Gardeners are volunteers with at least two years food growing experience and a passion for encouraging others to have a go.

Organic growing techniques are part of the training so you don’t need to be an expert.

This project is about increasing the number of growing sites in the Dyfi Biosphere area for food, nature, and well-being. The main activities relate to developing growing sites, involving the local community, and supporting the development of short supply chains.

The aim of the project over the coming years is to boost the local food economy, increase involvement of local communities in growing and create a foundation upon which activities started will continue post project.

The free training will take place at Penparcau Community Hub, Aberystwyth, on 28 and 29 October, from 9.30am to 3.30pm and growers are being encouraged to apply.
