COMMUNITY groups in Dwyfor Meirionnydd will receive funding from the National Lottery.

The groups, Lle Chi in Blaenau Ffestiniog and Cwymni Bro Antur Aelhaern 1974, will receive £10,000 and £5,000 respectively.

Lle Chi will use the £10,000 to offer opportunities for local low-income families to receive early years Welsh-medium childcare in the Cylch.

Cwmni Bro Antur Aelhaearn 1974 will use its £5,000 to open a village shop in Llanaelhaearn.

The shop will sell healthy, local produce, provide an opportunity for people to meet and for people to learn Welsh in a practical setting.

Helene Rudlin, one of the group’s volunteers said: “Our community shop will be much more than just a shop.

“It will provide a meeting place and focus for the community where news and ideas are shared, friendships are made, where skills swap can be offered and where local produce can be sold at reasonable prices.

“It will also benefit those of us who are disadvantaged by lack of personal transport, limited physical mobility, and those seeking volunteer opportunities.”

Sarah Bowles, North Wales funding officer at The National Lottery Community Fund, said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, more than £30 million a week is raised for good causes across the UK and last year we gave grants to more than 7,500 projects to support people’s health and wellbeing.

“We know how valued these groups’ work is in north Wales and we’re looking forward to seeing yet more communities finding out how National Lottery funding helps to change people’s lives.”
