AN Aberystwyth youth theatre company is gearing up for one of its biggest ever projects which will last for two weeks, starting this weekend.
Celebrating the legend of Cantre’r Gwaelod, staff at Arad Goch, which is based on Bath Street, are putting the final touches on a summer extravaganza of art.
Starting at 7pm this Friday with a gig at the Bandstand, Gwyl Hen Linell Bell — the Far Old Line Festival — will feature more than 40 free events, including workshops, displays and gigs along the prom, at Arad Goch and throughout the town before coming to a close with The Sea King’s Feast on Saturday, 8 August.
The festival is the result of months of tireless planning and fundraising, which has seen the company raise £70,000 from various sources, including Cynal y Cardi, Advancing Aberystwyth (BID), the town council, county council, and the Arts Council for Wales.
Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, Arad Goch artistic director Jeremy Turner explained the inspiration for the festival.
“This is one of the biggest things we have done. This is also different for us because we will be working with members of the community.
“The aim of this is to be reflective of culture in Aber, the diversity of culture in Aber. It is also coinciding with the Welsh Year of the Legend."
