A DONATION from a Newcastle Emlyn hairdresser is helping to develop an allotment project for people with disabilities run by charity Cartrefi Cymru in Carmarthen.

Hairdresser Pamela Atterbury has added to her past record of charity fund-raising by donating £1,000 to the project being developed behind Carmarthen Tesco.

The money comes from a number of fund-raising activities Pamela and her colleague, Shelagh McDonald, organised last year, including a Newcastle Emlyn coffee morning, a sponsored walk along the coastal path from Saundersfoot to Tenby and a skydiving event.

Gareth Davies, service manager at Cartrefi Cymru, said: “We were thrilled to receive this donation. It will allow us to speed ahead with the allotment we are developing where people can learn about, and grow, vegetables and flowers.

“It will provide a sensory space to meet and relax and enjoy the benefits of being outside. We’d very much like to thank Pamela and Shelagh and everyone else who raised the money.”

Pamela became aware of the difficulties people can face when her grandson, Casey, was diagnosed with autism.

“Knowing about the special needs of my five-year-old autistic grandson and the struggles faced by families with an autistic member, I set out to raise money for organisations that support people with autism because I know first-hand how important they are,” she said.

Pamela has also made donations to the National Autism Society Cymru, and is now focusing on supporting local organisations.
