A hard-hitting play about sexual exploitation created by an Aberystwyth-based theatre company in collaboration with the office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Dyfed-Powys has been honoured with two awards.
Arad Goch’s Hudo/Tempted received three nominations in the Arts & Business (A&B) Cymru Awards 2019.
The nominations were for the Arts, Business & Young People award, Arts, Business & the Community award, and Admiral Business of the Year.
The awards took place at the Wales Millennium Centre on Thursday, 11 July, in front of over 400 guests, and the play triumphed, picking up the Arts, Business & Young People award.
The team behind the show were also shocked and delighted to receive the Hodge Arts Award 2019 at the end of the evening.
For over a quarter of a century, the A&B awards have encouraged, acknowledged and celebrated exemplary and innovative partnerships between the private sector and the arts that benefit communities across the country.
And Arad Goch’s Hudo/Tempted, a forum theatre production produced in collaboration with the Office of Police and Crime Commissioner Dyfed-Powys, which helped to fund and develop the production, impressed the judges.
Commenting on the collaboration with the commissioner’s office, Jeremy Turner, artistic director of Arad Goch, said: “We’re very proud of the collaboration with the Commissioner’s Office.
"Young people’s wellbeing and ideas are at the heart of the company’s work and the financial support by the commissioner allowed us to perform this important play to many more of them.
“Just as important was the support, discussions and practical help we received from the commissioner and his staff as we researched and performed this sensitive issue.
“We congratulate Dafydd Llywelyn and his team and their innovation to recognise the value and potential of creativity and the arts to help young people and their safety.”
