Swimming pool open day

THE LABOUR candidate seeking to become the next North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner visited Harlech Swimming Pool open day. David Taylor met with local residents and volunteers on Saturday, 16 January, and gave his backing to the local campaign to secure the pool’s long-term future. He said: “We hear a lot from government about the ‘big society’. Well in Harlech this is the real big society in action. “Under the visionary leadership of Heidi Williams (chair of Harlech and Ardudwy Leisure) the community is transforming the fortunes of this vital community asset. “Since the people of Harlech saved the pool from closure, the board of trustees, staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly to ensure the provision of a swimming pool in Harlech, together with a state of the art climbing wall and community café. “I am backing them 100 per cent in their campaign to secure their financial future and hope even in an age of austerity Gwynedd Council recognises the huge benefits to the community from a modest long-term investment.”
