Madam,
Have “remainer” politicians completely lost their marbles?
For the most part MPs say they want to honour the result of the referendum and leave the EU. There are only two ways of doing that. We either leave with an agreement or without an agreement. The EU’s position is that the only agreement they are prepared to enter into is the one negotiated by Theresa May. They are telling us we must take it or leave it. Parliament has already decided to leave it three times so we must leave without a deal. There is no alternative and there will never be an alternative unless the EU change their position.
In these circumstances I cannot fathom what is going on in the minds of MPs like Liz Saville Roberts (Cambrian News, 15 August) who wanted to recall parliament to debate “no-deal Brexit”. What is there to debate? We are being offered a single deal on a take-it or leave-it basis. MPs won’t take it so, if they want to honour the referendum result as they profess to do, we have to leave without a deal. Recalling parliament, debating it, having a vote of no confidence in the government, or a general election or getting yet another extension from the EU won’t alter the fact that the EU are not willing to alter the rejected deal or to discuss anything else. In these circumstances it doesn’t matter who is in government, no deal is the only way forward and will remain so as long as the EU maintain their position.
The only conclusion I can reach is that our MPs have completely lost the plot - or am I missing something?
Yours etc, Alan MacMaster, Barmouth.
