What should be done with a patch of green land in Aberystwyth town centre that once homed the controversial rope labyrinth?
A consultation over the future of open space near North Road, now empty after the rope labyrinth was taken down last year, is continuing - with the town council calling for residents to respond before the deadline.
Aberystwyth Town Council launched a consultation to find out what residents wanted to replace the much-maligned rope labyrinth on North Road.
The labyrinth, built in 2013 using 720 wooden posts linked by a mile of rope, cost taxpayers £6,000 to build and thousands a year to maintain – topped up by Aberystwyth Town Council paying Ceredigion council workers £1,500 to remove it in July.
Plans to replace the labyrinth, described as a “horrendous” and “weird” “eyesore” by nearby residents, could include a playground, seating area and tree planting.
The labyrinth removal came after councillors complained that the area was not being used.
Shortly after it opened, it was decided that the area would be locked at night after it emerged naked revellers had been running around, swearing and causing disruption to residents.
Two years later the town council banned dogs from the area after reports of dogs “jumping on children” and problems with dog fouling.
The consultation questionnaire can be found online at www.aberystwyth.gov.uk
The closing date for views is Saturday, 1 February.
