ILL patients face either a day’s wait or a 20-mile round trip for medicine as no pharmacies are open on Sunday, according to an upset town mayor.
In Dolgellau, neither pharmacy - Rowlands or Boots - open on Sunday, causing concern for those seeking medical advice or prescriptions over half of the weekend.
Cllr Delwyn Evans, mayor of Dolgellau, has criticised the situation.
“It is sad that if you are sick in Dolgellau on a Sunday or Bank Holiday you will not be able to have your prescription seen to because both pharmacies are closed,” he told the Cambrian News.
“In the summer your nearest pharmacy is 10 miles away in Barmouth. What happens in the winter we don’t know, wait until next day I suppose?
“Many people with minor injuries or illnesses would love to go to a pharmacy rather than block up minor ailment sessions at the local hospital, but that just isn’t an option on Sunday.
“Dolgellau is a hub for tourists and yet businesses prefer to close at weekends and bank holidays.”
