Patients at Aberystwyth’s North Road eye clinic are being “badly let down” and forced to wait for appointments, one patient has said.
Bethania resident Christine Walters said she is facing another “disgusting” wait for treatment after previously being forced to wait two years for a check-up because of a lengthy waiting list.
Hywel Dda’s deputy chief executive has apologised to patients for delays, but insisted that improvements have been made at the clinic.
Mrs Walters said patients were being let down by the amount of time they were having to wait for appointments and treatment.
She said: “Once again the North Road eye clinic has let me down.
“Last year I waited about two years for an eye check up as I have glaucoma.
“Now this year I have rung and been told the so-called list is everlasting again.
“Why have myself and many other patients been badly let down again?
“Hywel Dda Health Board wants to get a grip on this situation once again.
“Big waiting lists, are disgusting and I am upset for myself and also lots of other patients.”
Joe Teape, the deputy chief executive and director of operations for the health board, said there had been improvements to waiting times, but said the situation was being monitored.
He said: “On behalf of the health board I would like to apologise to any patients who have had to wait for an excessive amount of time for opthalmology services in Ceredigion.
“Currently, North Road Clinic has two full-time consultants and two full-time senior middle grade opthalmologists.
“Over the last year the health board has made improvements to patient waiting times for both outpatient appointments and treatments. We are monitoring and reviewing the provision of eye care across the health board to ensure that a safe professional service is maintained at all times.”
