A BAKING company run by reality television star Alana Spencer has had to recall several of its products over allergy fears, food health chiefs have said.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said that several Ridiculously Rich products were recalled last week after finding they had no allergy warning despite containing allergens such as peanuts, eggs or soya.

The company is run by 25-year-old Ms Spencer, who shot to fame after winning The Apprentice last year.

The former Aberaeron Comprehensive School pupil, who has lived in Aberystwyth for two years after living with her parents in Llanrhystud, founded the company with a £250,000 investment from Lord Alan Sugar following her victory on the reality TV show.

Lord Sugar is a partner in the company.

The FSA said: “Ridiculously Rich by Alana is recalling the cakes listed below because some allergens have not been listed and others have not been correctly declared.

“This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya, egg or peanuts, and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat, barley and oats (gluten) and/or a sensitivity to sulphites.”

A comany spokesperson said: “There was an issue with inaccurate labelling on some mixed boxes sold on the Ridiculously Rich website.

“Lord Sugar was made aware of the situation immediately.

“He’s spoken to Alana and is satisfied she has put the right measures in place to avoid a situation like this again.”

The recall concerns Belgian Chocolate Rocky Road; Crème Brulee Brownie; Peanut Butter Fudge Cake; Salted Caramel Slice; Sticky Toffee Flapjack; and Gooey Chocolate Brownie all with dates up to 1 December.

The Ridiculously Rich Mixed Box has also been recalled as it a selection of six of the affected cakes as well as several other items that have been inaccurately labelled.

The FSA added that if anyone has bought these products, they can return it to the store for a full refund.

It is not known how many of the affected items were sold with inaccurate labels.
