A CHEQUE for almost £11,000 has been presented to the Special Care Baby Unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd following a fundraiser by a group of Llyn motorbike enthusiasts.

The Llyn Bikers held their sixth fundraising ride this year and has raised £10,830.76 for the special care baby unit in the Bangor Hospital.

Over the last five years the biking group has ran a fundraising day and now raised over £33,350 for local good causes which have all been decided on by the members.

In 2010 the group supported Breast Cancer Care and with 63 bikers they managed to raise £1907.

In 2011 the bikers supported Gwynedd Home Hospice Care with 107 motorbikes turning out and raised £3058.

In 2012 the team decided to raise funds for Llywelyn Williams, from Bwlchtocyn, who was knocked down by a car near Abersoch and unfortunately lost his leg. This fundraiser received huge support and 126 motorbikes took part which raised £7,200 towards Llywelyn’s support and rehabilitation.

In 2013 the group raised £4,850 and in 2014 93 bikers raised £5505.93 for The British Heart Foundation Cymru.

The bikers have now smashed previous fundraisers with a total of £10,830.76 raised through their event this year.

Following the cheque presentation, Llyn Biker, Eifion Roberts, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed presenting this cheque to the special care baby unit in Ysbyty Gwynedd, it was a lovely evening and I met some really amazing people.

“The money will be used to buy one photo therapy unit, four breast milk pump machines, two new thermometers, one monitor for the community nurse who works all over Gwynedd.

“We were thrilled to smash our fundraising target this year and help such an important cause such as this.

“I’d like to thank everyone who was part of the ride again this year and we hope to raise more money for another cause in 2016.”
