OFFERS made for the former Bodlondeb care home cannot be disclosed by Ceredigion council, because they are still inviting offers, a spokesperson has insisted.

The council is remaining tight-lipped over the future of the former home and the offers it has received and whether any of them meet council priorities for a specialist care home or social housing.

The Cambrian News had asked for an update on the potential sale of the site, but was told the authority would not say how many offers had been received and if there had been any offers which met the council’s priority aims for the site.

A council spokesperson said: “The council continues to invite offers that are in line with the uses that were prioritised by the Cabinet.

“Because of this, the council cannot comment further at this stage.”

The council has also not said if there is a deadline for offers to be lodged and what sort of timescale the authority is working to.

The lack of information has led to concerns being raised locally about what is happening to the site, with former Ceredigion MP Mark Williams, the chair of the North Ceredigion Forum for Elderly Care, calling for the council to explain what the current situation is.

He said: “Ever since the tragic closure of Bodlondeb, local people have asked the question ‘what next for that site’, which is why the council needs to come clean on what its plans are, what interest has been expressed in any purchase and whether the priorities set are to be met and whether future use will benefit the people of Penparcau.

“They should not be leaving the public in the dark. If the site is to be sold then Cered-igion Council taxpayers will rightly demand financial answers to financial questions.”
