A partnership agreement behind a multi-million pound health centre development for Tregaron has been given executive approval at an “historic” meeting.

Ceredigion County Council’s Cabinet signed off on the Cylch Caron Integrated Resource Centre deal, versions of which have been in the pipeline for nearly 15 years.

A special meeting was held last Thursday and in just 20 minutes the final development agreement between the council, Hywel Dda University Health Board and Mid Wales Housing Association was approved.

Council leader Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn said: “For me this is a historical meeting. We have been discussing something similar to Cylch Caron since 2005/06 and it’s dragged on and on until now.

“Hopefully we can see the end of the journey now approaching.”

Cylch Caron will provide health and extra care provision under one roof with GP surgery, community pharmacy, outpatient clinics, nursing services, long-term care and day care, along with flats for people needing extra care to remain at home.

Plans really started advancing in 2016 and since then a great deal of work has gone into preparing the partnership deal, cabinet was told.

Cabinet member for adult serves Cllr Alun Williams said that Ceredigion was taking the lead on an “exemplary service”.

A tendering process has been held to find a developer for the site as well as sourcing funding.

“A lot of sweat has been perspired and we have come to this position where tomorrow (Friday, 1 March) we will be in a position to sign this document along with our partners,” said Cllr ap Gwynn.
