A Criccieth care home which was at the centre of a TV expose and has been the subject of several critical reports has been given the all-clear by inspectors.
In November an undercover reporter from S4C’s Y Byd ar Bedwar highlighted several shocking failures at The Pines in Criccieth only a month after the Care Inspectorate Wales had reported there were no non-compliance issues.
The programme revealed examples of poor staff training, record-keeping and medication, and one elderly resident was seen sleeping with an emergency cord tangled around his body and neck.
Following the expose inspectors revisited The Pines, which is registered for 38 people with dementia, and issued four non-compliance notices.
The owners were given until 4 February to put things right and in their latest report, which has just been published, inspectors say they once again made an unannounced visit to the home three days after that deadline.
They say: “We visited the home in response to recent concerns from people associated with the service and members of the public.”
Whilst there they spoke to staff including a nurse, deputy manager and three care workers as well as a relative of one of the residents.
They also examined the premises and a wide range of records.
The inspectors say that many improvements had been made since November and those in charge were committed to auditing the service to ensure that the quality of care was sustained.
