A NURSE has been suspended for nine months after a female resident at a Tywyn care home was left with a broken arm following a “tug of war” with a towel.

Nicusor Butarita was suspended after a Nursing and Midwifery Council panel ruled his behaviour amounted to misconduct during the incident which happened in September 2016 at the Alexandra Nursing Home.

The NMC panel heard that the resident suffered a fractured arm when her arm hit the cot-side of a bed after Mr Butarita had become involved in what was described as a “tug of war” with a towel while he was drying the resident.

While the panel ruled that it was an isolated incident, it said that the incident was so serious that it amounted to misconduct.

A report into the findings said that Mr Butarita, who has not worked as a nurse since May 2017, had shown “a reluctance to accept that your actions and behaviour were wrong”.

Taking all matters found proved into account, the panel concluded the “conduct fell significantly below the standard required of a registered nurse and was serious enough to amount to misconduct".
