AMBULANCE chiefs have “sincerely apologised” after a two-year-old suffering from a potentially lethal seizure was forced to wait hours for an ambulance
Last week the Cambrian News reported how toddler Lexi Bessant was lucky to escape brain damage after waiting for two frantic hours to be transferred to Ysbyty Gwynedd for urgent medical treatment.
Lexi’s fit began at approximately 3.30pm on Saturday 4 November before eventually arriving at Ysbyty Gwynedd at 6.50pm where they treated the two-year-old.
The traumatic experience could have been shortened but Air Ambulance medics were forced to stay grounded for a significant period before a road ambulance arrived.
Sarah Bessant, Lexi’s mum, was fearful the lack of ambulance cover in the area could mean the next victim of a severe medical episode could be at risk of more dire consequences.
After asking for a comment, Jonathan Sweet, the Welsh Ambulance Service’s Operations Manager for North West Wales, said: “We would like to sincerely apologise to Mrs Bessant for Lexi’s wait to be transferred to Ysbyty Gwynedd.
“We have no doubt that this must have been a very distressing experience, and are keen to talk directly to Mrs Bessant about her concerns. In the meantime we send Lexi our best wishes for her continuing recovery.”
