A TRAGEDY on the Wales Coast Path near Cwmtydu inspired a couple to launch a campaign to raise funds to place two defibrillators at the village.
Aled and Lynn Davies, owners of Melyn-y-Gors B&B and Café, decided to raise funds following the death in April of a woman in her 50s - who hasn’t been named - who had suffered a cardiac arrest while walking along the Cwm Silio coastal path.
Despite a group of walkers’ attempts to resuscitate her using CPR, the woman sadly died on her way to the hospital.
Following the tragedy, Mr and Mrs Davies united the small community to raise £2,000 for two defibrillators to be placed in the area.
The heart machines can be found at Melyn-y-Gors alongside the Cwm Silio coastal path.
The installation of protective boxes to house the defibrillators has been funded by Llandysiliogogo County Council.
Known as Automated External Defibrillators, the devices are designed to be immediately used by lay responders with little or no training.
“We are extremely grateful to the local businesses and individuals who so generously supported the Cwmtydu Defibrillator Fund,” said Mr Davies.
“This tragedy affected all of us in our small community and everyone was keen to support this important cause.”
