A community bus service to help people on the Llyn get to the doctors has been resurrected thanks to a community council.
At the beginning of this year the community transport organisation O Ddrws i Ddrws, (literally translated “From door to door”) applied to Ll?n area community councils for money to run a specific service, to take people to their local surgeries.
Last year, Abersoch Surgery was closed and a pilot service was set up to take people to the surgery in Botwnnog.
Only a few people took advantage of the bus at that time, and the service, which was funded by the health board, ended.
Llanengan Community Council were approached asking whether they would be willing to fund a scheme, to be piloted for a year, to which they agreed.
People can now make an appointment and then call O Ddrws i Ddrws on 01758 721777 to ask for transport. Normally, at least one day’s notice must be given.
Llanystumdwy Community Council has also agreed to fund a similar scheme in the Llanystumdwy area. This means that the service is available to people from the Llanystumdwy, Rhoslan, Llangybi and Chwilog areas. They can be taken to the medical centre at Criccieth or Pwllheli.
O Ddrws i Ddrws also recently received donations in memory of loved ones. It was decided to start a useful new service in memory of them and to thank the families for their generosity. The intention of O Ddrws i Ddrws, with that money, is to trial sending people to Bryn Beryl Hospital for £2 per person.
